Maria Tower

Maria's Tower is located just 2 km from Zachodzek, where the WENA agritourism is located. The more we recommend going on a trip and locating this building, and preferably climbing it. In order to climb the lookout point, contact the Bolewice Forest District, which is the owner of the facility, in advance. Without prior notice, the chances of entering the Maria Tower will be negligible, so remember to call the forest inspectorate's office (tel. 61 441 17 66).

It is definitely worth climbing to the top of the 24-meter tower! It is located on Czarcie Góra, at an altitude of 109 m above sea level. It offers a view of the entire area, and above all the forest, in the middle of which it is located. The Maria Tower is a building built centuries ago – in 1888. The primary and most important function of the tower was to observe from the top of the area and catch fire fires. From 1939, two firefighters were on duty in the tower, then one during a fire emergency, until 1982, when due to poor technical condition it was necessary to stop entering the facility. Rumor has it that the building started to decline when its owners were killed in 1979 by an escaped patient of a psychiatric institution.

The Maria Tower was rebuilt by the Bolewice Forest District almost from scratch in 2005, and the entire project was recognized with the nationwide “Modernization of the Year 2005” award in the category of industrial and engineering facilities. Currently, it again serves as a fire lookout point, a viewing point, and is also an educational element of the region as one of the stages of the "Sand along the axes or MIEDZICHOWSKI PARIS – DAKAR" trail. The bicycle route is not the easiest one due to the rather extreme surface – you have to cover, among others, deep sand and shallow, albeit a wide stream, so it's safest to have good equipment. The beautiful views from the tower, however, reward the effort made to reach the building
